Tablature

Tablature — or 'tab' — is a notation specific to string instruments that represents the neck rather than pitch. Six lines represent the six strings, and numbers indicate which frets to play. More accessible than the staff for a beginner, it does not however convey exact rhythm or certain musical aspects. Most modern guitar scores combine tablature and standard notation.
