Fret
Metal strip that divides the neck into semitone-wide spaces.
A fret is one of the thin metal strips that cross a guitar neck. They divide the strings into 'spaces' — the area between two frets — each corresponding to one semitone. The first fret is closest to the nut; the high frets (12, 15, 17) are towards the body of the instrument. A classical guitar has between 19 and 24 frets depending on the model. The fret number is central in chord and tablature notation.
